This one-hour guided interpretative tour takes you on an interactive journey through the sugar cane growing and crushing process, from getting an up-close view of sugar cane in our own patch to tastings of products made with sugar that are produced onsite. We offer the only such tour in Australia.
During the tour, we will share a brief background of the history of sugar cane farming in the region and explain how sugar cane is grown and harvested. Then it's into our own miniature mill area where we show the same crushing process that the operating mills use, featuring a variety of demonstrative aids. The tour includes the various tastes of sugar cane production, such as freshly-crushed juice, molasses and maybe even a nibble of the cane stalk itself.
The whole paddock-to-bottle sugar journey is completed with tastings of our liqueur products, our chutneys, relishes and sauces, our non-alcoholic ginger beer, and our freshly-spun fairy floss.
Please note, this is an interpretative tour explained through a replica non-operating miniature sugar cane mill in our sheds. The Sarina Sugar Shed is not associated with the Wilmar Plane Creek Mill located behind us, and tours do not operate through the Plane Creek Mill. However, during crushing season, you can see, hear and smell the vibrant activity at this mill from across the railway line which is about as close as you can get!
We run four guided tours per day: 9.30am, 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm.
Bookings are strongly advised to avoid disappointment.
