Sarah moved to Sarina back in 2011 from the small town of Jericho. Soon after her move, Sarah embarked on a 12-month traineeship with Mackay Regional Council where she completed her Certificate III in Retail.
Sarah’s primary focus started with the business aspect of the Sugar Shed which included taking visitors on guided tours. However, it wasn’t long until Sarah completely immersed herself in the world of sugar and distilling, learning eagerly from the factory operators. Her curiosity soon sparked her passion for learning about distilling and spirit productions.
Since her traineeship, Sarah attended a course in the Fundamentals of Distilling at the University of Adelaide which set the foundations for her theoretical knowledge in spirits, various still types and distilling processes. Coupled with hands-on distilling training from an array of distillers, Sarah was soon on her way to becoming the talented distiller she is today.
Sarah spent much of her time travelling to distilleries and breweries across Australia, absorbing and learning new techniques to develop her craft and skills as a distiller. In October 2020, Sarah became our head distiller where she continues to concoct our sought-after liqueurs and limited-edition rums.
When Sarah is not brewing up a delicious storm at the Sugar Shed, she enjoys her time off with her loved ones, working on their farm and hanging out with their menagerie of animals. Of course, you could also find her enjoying live music and indulging in some good food and wine.
